Definitely some ideas here and on my post at Sew Retro to keep in mind, both for this dress, and future sewing projects.

Sophie Miriam, I'll keep you in mind if I decide to ditch the 32 bust version of this pattern. It might happen if I either give up on it, or manage to draft a winner from it, because it's looking like something that works is going to deviate significantly from the original. On the other hand, you might be better served by keeping an eye out for the size 10 / bust 30 version of this pattern, because it runs WAY big.Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10674930108735903116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659532327707234622.post-74454619969956132822010-05-07T14:06:24.103-07:002010-05-07T14:06:24.103-07:00I'd like to give this one a go!
I agree that ...I'd like to give this one a go!

I agree that the version you have now is not good. There's also the difference between the artist's depiction on the envelope and reality.

I think with re-drafting/re-fitting--and definitely a different colour--this one could work. You could also try lowering the neckline a little, and see if that helps.geogrrlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16935352129240009810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659532327707234622.post-14638215214380839312010-05-06T23:04:36.870-07:002010-05-06T23:04:36.870-07:00I found you on Sew Retro. I bought McCall's 6759 (check out the Jackie illustration!) but now the curved bodice seams are scaring me a little. Your Advance pattern looks less intimidating! (Check out the Jackie dress that started it all here: http://fuzzylizzie.bravejournal.com/entry/27744)

Also, shorten that dress a little and add a fluffer/crinoline/petticoat and a belt. It will make tons of difference! Seriously. The fluffer alone cures 80% of my frump issues.Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10408008074242523257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659532327707234622.post-75158297755870862662010-05-06T07:17:02.496-07:002010-05-06T07:17:02.496-07:00I would like to enter! smgjic [at] hotmail [dot] c...I would like to enter! smgjic [at] hotmail [dot] com.

I'd have to grade down a bit, though....sure you don't want to keep the 34" and give me the 32"? :P

Sophie
filasewphie.blogspot.comSophie Miriamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984573258370585557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5659532327707234622.post-30659088093865967072010-05-06T04:58:19.471-07:002010-05-06T04:58:19.471-07:00Did you try to belt it and wear it with some high ...Did you try to belt it and wear it with some high heels? I agree this one is not so flattering. (I'm not entering for the pattern either, as I know that neckline will do nothing for me.) I, too, am drawn to the vintage patterns by the drawings, but I must always remind myself that I won't wear a bullet bra, girdle or crinoline, so some patterns just aren't for me.
